Objective

To lift every voice, sing and rejoice

Key Programmes

The Kranji Choir was officially formed in 2000 with a vision to ‘Lift Every Voice, Sing and Rejoice’.

Since its inception, the choir has grown in strength and ability. It has participated in five Singapore Youth Festivals since the year 2003, and was awarded Silver in all the years until last year, it clinched its first Gold Award.

Besides that, the Kranji choir participates actively in various events every year. Within school, the choir performs during the Lunar New Year celebrations, the annual Achievements Day, Kranji Secondary School Open House and Performing Arts Showcase. Externally, the choir has participated in various public performances.

In 2007, the choir held its first public concert entitled ‘The Lion King Medley’. The choir took part in the ‘International Arts Festival 2008’ at Genting Highlands, Malaysia and was awarded Silver in the Youth category. In 2009, the choir held a mini performance at the foyer of the Singapore Conference Hall.

In 2010, choir members were part of the National Combined School Choir of 1000 in strength who performed at the Padang during the National Day Parade. The choir also participated in a choral exchange, which included 16 other local choirs, at Port Dickson, Malaysia in December. It was an opportunity to learn from other choirs as well as from the clinics and workshops organised. The trip came to a close with the Kranji Choir’s performance for disadvantaged children at a Malaccan Orphanage, which was a meaningful experience. In the year 2012, Kranji choir performed at Ngee Ann City Civic plaza at the SHOWCASE! Performing Arts Festival 2012, an event organised by the Arts Education Branch, Ministry of Education. In December, the choir took part in an overseas competition namely Jubilate VI, Festival of Choirs @ Desaru, Johor Bahru, Malaysia and clinched a Silver award for the Mixed Youth category.

Besides these, a few selected choir members were involved in cultural programmes organised by CCA Branch, Ministry of Education, such as Music Talent Development Centre 2010-2012 (MTDC West zone) and Singapore International Youth Choral Festival 2011. In 2012, In pursuit of excellence and exposure for all choir members, the Kranji Choir will continue to explore opportunities to develop and showcase their talents.
