What a year 2015 has been with SG 50 and Kranji 20! This year promises to be as exciting with the school’s design of the new school building in 2019 being conceptualised and move to its holding site being crystallised.
Our main focus this year would be to create more authentic learning experiences for the students. As part of our newly conferred Applied Learning Programme status in ‘Nurturing Communities of Reflective and Independent Learners through Thinking Curriculum’ the school has in place a school-wide approach to the Thinking Curriculum that all students in Kranji would be involved in.
As part of the Curriculum, all Secondary Two students will be applying the Thinking routines acquired over their first two years in Kranji in an authentic context. The school has identified Nanyang Polytechnic as a strategic partner and all Sec 2 Express and Normal Academic students will go through a customized 2 day Science based programme, while the Secondary 3 Express and Normal Academic students will experience a half day industrial attachment to apply their learning. The 3 Normal Technical students will be completing their authentic learning experience as part of their selected Elective Modules in ITE. The opportunity created through the modules will allow students to internalize the Thinking routines through integration in various subject disciplines and help students see relevance of the Thinking routines in their daily lives.
As part of the school’s Learning for Life Programme (LLP) in Student Leadership and to develop a leader in every Kranjian, all Secondary 3 students will be given the opportunity to attend OBS (Outward Bound Singapore). Secondary 2 students will attend an in-house camp. In addition, Service Learning will feature strongly in the school’s Character and Citizenship Education (CCE) curriculum. We are glad that we identified a good number of partners for Service_learning and we see ourselves contributing more to the new Limbang community too.We believe this journey will develop a leader in every Kranjian as envisioned in our LLP.
Winston Churchill once said, ‘A pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity; an optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty.’ We want all Kranjians to embrace this spirit which will strengthen resilience and develop active and hardy citizens with a can-do attitude!
Best wishes for a great 2016!
